What we love about 2143 Augusta Drive

The Neighborhood
The Neighbors are, without a doubt, the most treasured feature of this house to us! This neighborhood has such a wonderful mix of families in all chapters of life, who are always ready to help with anything that might be needed. Those of us with young children are grateful for the many friends that can be found running around outside, riding bikes, shooting hoops, and playing games. The empty-nesters help us keep a watchful eye on all this activity and are always the first in line at lemon-aide and cookie stands. The people surrounding this house help make it a home – this neighborhood is so tight-knit that it seems like living in a 1950’s TV show!
The location of this house is another feature that we value. Two of the highest-rated public schools in Colorado are within easy walking distance; and with that comes some hidden benefits! There is a track behind the Middle School where we taught all three of our children to ride bikes (flat, paved ground is hard to come by in the foothills!). We also never have to worry about finding a place to park on Back-to-School Night (!) and walking our children to school on the first day every year is one of our favorite traditions. We are also within easy walking distance to Buchanan Rec Center, where they have outdoor ice-skating rinks in the winter and Art Festivals and Chili Cookoffs in the summer. Hiwan Golf Club is just a mile down the road in the other direction, which makes it an easy walk or bike ride to the beautiful outdoor pool or tennis courts in the summer.
Creature Comforts
First, the comforts: while some would say that Air Conditioning is not necessary this far into the foothills, there are certainly some nights in July and August that it is nice to have! Beyond the handful of days each year that it might be needed for cooling, we found the A/C to be a lifesaver during the high pollen season. This past summer and fall, with the forest fires surrounding the state and the smoke causing many families respiratory distress, we were especially grateful to have it. The Heated Driveway is another feature that makes life here especially easy. The temperature and moisture sensors work together to efficiently warm the concrete pad driveway, walkway, and front stairs only when needed. The heated driveway has increased the safety of our home for visitors and shovelers alike!
Also, the creatures! It may seem hard to believe, but even in a neighborhood on a golf course, we are lucky enough to be visited by the local wildlife often. Elk herds and mule deer are our most common guests, but recently we have had the pleasure of watching a bobcat family grow up and expand, and a beautiful juvenile red-tailed hawk hunt for dinner in the tall grass beyond the fence. We have watched a black bear nap beside the big tree in the back yard, we’ve seen a coyote passing through, and we have even spotted an ermine once, jumping through the snow under the bushes. If this sounds a little intense, take heart – we have raised three children in this backyard and have never once been afraid for their safety. Our wildlife friends typically stay far clear when any activity or noise of any kind is happening! They are normally most likely to make an appearance in the early morning or around dusk.
Space to Spread Out
The last hidden gem about this house that is worth highlighting is the abundant space, both inside and outside, for everyone to spread out. The covered patio extends the living space into the outdoors, even in the winter. The dedicated home office has been a lifesaver, especially this past year, and the ‘workshop’ in the basement provides a home for all the camping, skiing and fly-tying equipment a family could ever need! The closets are spacious, and the ~500 sq ft of additional storage located behind the secret door in the mechanical room is worth mentioning!
